Experience: Hilary has many years of experience in both teaching and playing the violin, and started her own Colourstrings music school in Glasgow in 1995
Hilary Phillips is originally from Scotland and studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland graduating with a B.A in music performance. She started her teaching career while studying at the conservatoire and was introduced to the Colourstrings pedagogy soon after. She was awarded a Finzi scholarship to study in Finland with the world renowned Colourstrings teacher, Geza Szilvay. Hilary started her own Colourstrings music school in 1995 in Glasgow, teaching children the violin from 5 years old to college students.
Hilary also had the opportunity to travel to Hungary to study with world renowned Kodaly teachers. This has given her an excellent grounding in developing children's aural and rhythm. Hilary believes that every child is musical and it is through this philosophy that she nurtures every child's ability. Hilary has lots of performance experience including playing with the Telemann ensemble and as a freelance musician with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. In Auckland she regularly performs with an amateur string orchestra and when time permits with the St Mathews Chamber Orchestra.
